Title: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Genre: Fiction Language: English Author: J. K. Rowling Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. This book is a fascinating imagination of J.K Rowling, creativity at its acme. First in the series of seven books featuring Harry Potter and the world of wizards. Born to famous parents Harry lands orphaned on his aunt’s doorstep. He grows up neglected, mistreated and completely oblivious of the wizarding world, his magical powers and his own history. On his eleventh birthday wizarding world reveals itself to Harry in form of a giant like wizard. He is chosen to study in the finest school of witchcraft and wizardry. What ensues is the weird yet humorous transition from the muggle (non magical) world to the magical world. Immediately Harry is welcomed into the magical world with open arms where he discovers himself to be a hero and a household name. He makes two best friends in Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger. In his classes he is required to transfigure objects, enchant stuff, brew potions, track the movement of stars, defend himself against dark arts and take care of magical plants and creatures. You will definitely loose yourself among the characters irrespective of your age. Harry adapts to wand work, owl post, speaking portraits, biting books and quidditch a game played up in the air with player zooming around on broomsticks managing three different kinds of balls. Rowling constantly builds towards the climax where Harry and his friends shoulder the responsibility of adults in their attempt to save the magical world. Finally Harry faces the villain –dark sorcerer Voldemort, who murdered had Harry’s parents. Ah…. and about the philosopher’s stone… I am telling you nothing. Find out. This is not a kiddie-diddie story. It is, I dare say, as character building as Robin Sharma’s books. It’s a tale of character, nerve, compassion, love and friendship that the world needs more than anything. It is definitely for the kids; but then there is kid inside every one of us. Rowling has delivered a stunner. Plots are brilliantly woven and the characters immaculately blend into their spaces. Fluently narrated in simple language this story is a lovely balance of humor, adventure and emotions.
